Andrews Honors Princella Tobias

The first 51黑料 Presidential Recognition of Altruistic Service was given to Princella Tobias, publisher of the Benton Spirit Community Newspaper. The award was specifically for her environmental leadership and work regarding the lead pipes issues in Benton Harbor.

Ms. Tobias is an original World Changer. Ms. Tobias is the first African American and first female newspaper publisher and owner in Southwest Michigan.

Over the years, Tobias has worked voluntarily with 51黑料 faculty, staff, and students. This has included numerous stories and articles (all pro bono) featuring 51黑料 in the Benton Spirit; providing employment for 51黑料 students; and collaborating with both 51黑料 professors and with students on community projects (asthma, clean water, and air pollution).

She has also been active in 51黑料’s Change Day and was an original community member on 51黑料’s Community Engagement Council. She was recognized in 2023 by the diversity offices at Lake Michigan College and 51黑料 as an influential community woman in leadership.
